THAAD Subject Matter Expert (SME)

JOB TITLE: THAAD Subject Matter Expert (SME)


The Capabilities Development & Integration Directorate (CDID) Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Capability Managers (TCMs) coordinate and integrate doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, and facilities (DOTMLPF) issues and materiel solutions across current and future Army organizations.


Provide expertise to the U.S. Army to ensure the system integration, functional integration, and life-cycle system management of current and future capabilities by developing and coordinating doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, and facilities (DOTMLPF) activities. Specific tasks:

  • Understand capability, doctrine, and training developer requirements to include user interface, data and interoperability exchange requirements to enable the transfer of situational awareness, tracking data, engagement status, and kill assessments between shooters, sensors, and mission command, other Army and Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) systems and external command, control, and communications networks.
  • Assist the near term activities to focus all DOTMLPF domains on transforming from system centric processes to a Net centric approach to provide warfighters' capabilities.
  • Capture and document user required capabilities and capability gaps for input into Initial Capability Production Documents (ICD), Capability Development Documents (CDD), Capability Production Documents (CPD) and/or other required JCIDS documents as required.
  • Provide input for future Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) performance and requirements related documents and review, analyze, and provide subject THAAD matter expertise across the DOTMLPF domains and support the development of proposed future concepts and studies for THAAD and support tests, VAL/VERs and experiments.
  • Develop/update associated TTPs and review applicable Air Defense Artillery/Fires manuals with the Directorate of Training and Doctrine (DOTD) to ensure the latest capability/configuration updates are prepared for inclusion in relevant manuals and doctrine.
  • Track and recommend changes to the Army force structure, provide input into future Basis of Issue Plans (BOIP), Army Acquisition Objectives (AAO), and Force Design Updates (FDU) affecting THAAD.
  • Prepare fact sheets, talking papers, decision papers; coordinate, review, and provide subject matter expertise in the areas of Soldier Training Publications, System Training Plan (STRAP), Institutional Training Base and Unit Level Training Support, New Equipment Training (NET), Training Aids, Devices, Simulations, and Simulators (TADSS), Human Systems Integration and Individual/Collective Task Development.


Security Clearance: Secret

  • Active SECRET Clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years cumulative operational or program experience in THAAD, or,
    • Associate's Degree with ten (10) years cumulative operational or program experience in THAAD, or,
    • Twenty (20) years cumulative operational experience in Air and Missile Defense Operations.
    • Possess experience in the development, review and staffing of Air Defense related documents and publications.
    • Possess general background experience and knowledge base in THAAD training, defense design planning, tactical and maintenance/logistic operations.
    • Possess knowledge of Air Defense doctrine, weapon systems and organizations specified in each task listed above.
    • Possess a thorough understanding of weapon system integration into DOTMLPF domains.
    • Individual shall be familiar with Microsoft Office.
