Senior Systems Administrator - Navy Readiness Modeling App

JOB TITLE: Senior Systems Administrator – Navy Readiness Modeling Applications 


The Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Fleet Readiness (OPNAV N43) is an organization that shapes, innovates and leads Navy readiness for ships, aircraft and expeditionary units. OPNAV N43 is composed of the five main branches. These are Financial & Integration, Ship/Submarine Readiness, Aviation Readiness, Fleet Training & Readiness Reporting, and Expeditionary Readiness.   All branches use accredited readiness models as a basis to provide information and validate requirements over the course of the Future Years Defense Program (FYDP). The purpose of this requirement is to enable integrated technical and professional Fleet Readiness modeling services to branches within the OPNAV N43 branches. Period of performance is through 31 March 2017. 


Act as Primary System Administrator for N43 Readiness Models. Responsible for the timely upkeep, configuration, and correct operation of multiple complex technologies and environments including project LAN / WAN administration and application hosting environment, and customer connectivity to mil-hosted applications. Duties will include security administration, workstation imaging and support, web and database server administration, performance monitoring and tuning, backup and recovery, contingency and continuity of operations plans, support for routine audits, drills, and security accreditation renewals, implementing ATO POA&Ms, routine application of patches and updates, system documentation, troubleshooting, and supporting project team of 25, half of whom are developers, with application configuration management, promotions, and releases to production, as well as ensuring staff connectivity to all environments while maintaining 99% end-user application uptime.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a curriculum or major field of study which provides substantial knowledge useful in managing large, complex AIS projects is closely related to the work to be automated, and/or in a computer science, information system, physical science, engineering or a mathematics related discipline.

 Required Experience:    

  • 10+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator or with directly related experience in the design, management,   maintenance and update of complex web-based applications and databases. Also requires comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in all phases of full life cycle applications and systems maintenance, engineering, programming, and analysis.
  •  Extensive experience with Windows Server 2008
  •  Extensive experience with VMWare


  • Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes
  •  MCSE
  •  Familiarity with the principles and practice of system configuration management
  •    A solid understanding of Windows operating system
  •    Ability to use performance analysis to tune systems  
  • A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing and web-based programming Works well alone or on a team

Desired Experience: 

  • CSSP, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent security certification
  • Department of Navy security / IA experience
  • NMCI experience
  • VMWare Cert

WORK LOCATION: Washington, DC
