Part-time Assistant Volunteer & Inkind Gift Manager

To meet the growing needs of the agency/clients, the Assistant Volunteer & Inkind Gifts Officer identifies & develops new volunteer and inkind giving opportunities and represents DESC and its needs to the community.


  • Recruit, interview, screen, select, train, recognize and evaluate volunteers.
  • Contract with individual volunteers regarding their time commitment, volunteer performance and ethical expectations.
  • Plan and implement volunteer orientation and training curriculum and refine as necessary.
  • Supervise coordination of volunteer schedules and facilitate communication between staff and community volunteers .
  • Steward all volunteers to a positive and rewarding experience with DESC, addressing needs and concerns in a timely manner and demonstrating appreciation for their contribution to the DESC mission.
  • Maintain records in donor database with respect to volunteer contributions as well as in kind gifts.
  • Assist in scheduling, supervision, coordination and execution of group volunteer service projects.
  • Manage the system that provides donated clothing to the organization, including pick ups, sorting and distribution, using volunteer efforts, and filling in when needed.
  • Work at least one Saturday every month, with reoccurring and one-time volunteer groups. Be available for Monday and Friday donation pick ups if volunteers are not available.
  • Assist in procurement and distribution of in-kind gifts as directed by Volunteer and Inkind Gifts Manager
  • Manage the Thanksgiving and Holiday food and pie drive, procuring, managing and stewarding the relationships.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly and annual reports as needed.
  • Assist with agency tours and community presentations as necessary.
  • Assist with the preparation of funding requests, reports, newsletters and other materials as relates to the volunteer program.
  • Respond to routine requests for information.
  • Maintain safety and security by monitoring all general access areas and enforcing project rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • BA degree preferred. Significant experience in volunteer management or customer service may be substituted for degree.
  • Experience coordinating volunteer programs preferred. Experience in human services desirable.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Expansive computer skills with experience in open source applications or the ability to quickly learn new skills. Experience with Salesforce and When to Help preferred.
  • Washington State Drivers License and insurable driving record.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 40 pounds in weight.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients displaying a wide range of unpleasant and/or bizarre behaviors.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and volunteers from various backgrounds.
  • Ability to represent DESC in public speaking and tabling events.
  • Subscribe to a philosophy of cooperation and continuity across programs and of consideration and respect for clients.
