Materials Manager (2336)

Job Summary

The Materials Manager is responsible for developing and managing all supply chain activities in line with corporate best practices; including development and optimization of the Utah supply chain, implementation of purchasing and inventory control policies, development of shop floor control, as well as support for both inbound and outbound logistics. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager with functional reporting to the VP – Global Supply Chain.

Essential Functions

  • Develops comprehensive sourcing strategies leveraging corporate initiatives for supplier identification and development in quality, lead time reduction, and cost controls
  • Implements corporate best practices to eliminate waste throughout the supply chain to achieve cost-effective, optimal use of working capital
  • Develops, implements, and supports production planning tools to prioritize workflow and maximize on time performance
  • Support daily logistics challenges through expeditious multi-functional, multi-plant communication with focus on customer service
  • Works directly with all functional teams, including Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality, to optimize resources and provide world class internal and external customer service
  • Liaison between the plant and global functional leadership with daily/weekly reporting responsibilities
  • Daily support of production/supply chain challenges in coordination with the operations supervisor and plant manager
  • Responsible for developing a deep talent bench across the Materials function, including purchasing, inventory control, shop floor control, production planning and scheduling, warehousing, shipping and logistics
  • Contributes as a member of the senior plant staff providing leadership, guidance and direction to all levels of plant activities
  • Provides leadership influence and fosters an environment of continuous improvement to assure facility goals are met related to safety, quality, productivity, inventory velocity and customer service

Required Skills:

Qualifications, Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Technical field with 5-10 years demonstrated experience in developing and managing a materials team
  • Mastery of MS Office and project management software programs with advanced knowledge of ERP/MRP systems. JD Edwards experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • APICS or ISM certification preferred (CPIM, CPM, CIRM)
