POSITION TITLE: Cashier

 

LOCATION/DEPT: Pathway Forward Program

 

REPORTS TO: Business Manager

 

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

 

STATUS TYPE: Part-Time

 

OUTCOMES

The Cashier receives and records resident income information, issuing invoices for collection of amounts due the Center and maintaining supporting documentation. The Cashier instructs residents as to their financial responsibilities at the Center. The Cashier inputs and reviews relevant information in the database.

 

Sufficient administrative support will be provided to the Business Manager and other staff to insure that program duties are effectively achieved. This includes assistance with procedures and data management. A liaison will exist within both the Community Corrections Program and the Metropolitan Division.

ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • 1. Conducts group orientation for new residents as to their financial responsibilities at the Center. Informs and advises residents as to their specific financial responsibility problems during regular, posted daily hours of service. Works with Resident Advisors to obtain proper documentation so residents can cash checks before their subsistence information is received or processed. Refers requests for assistance beyond Cashier's authority (such as accepting partial payments) to the Business Manager.
  • 2. Assists in providing financial documents to the Bureau of Prisons. Maintains required records including manual back-up records, receipt books, ledgers, and signature cards.
  • 3. Receives paychecks and wage statements (check stubs) of residents who must pay subsistence and of residents whose obligation is waived. Copies income information for various files, as directed.
  • 4. Computes the resident's current subsistence obligation, checks for subsistence arrearages or non-subsistence payments currently due, and presents residents with an invoice for the total.
  • 5. Receives and receipts for money order/cashier's check/certified check payments, providing a copy to the Business Manager.
  • 6. As needed, assists in processing financial delinquency notices. Provides Business Manager with accurate and timely data as to money owed by terminating residents at least a week before their departure.
  • 7. Assists the Business Manager with word processing, filing, clerical, and file maintenance activities.
  • 8. All other duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • A high school diploma is required.
    • Three years of office work are required.

    COMPETENCIES

    • Moderate to excellent word processing experience, preferably in Word. Excellent arithmetic skills.
    • An attention to detail.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
    • An attention to detail.
    • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
    • Ability to explain procedures to residents in a professional, non-confrontational manner.
    • Supportive of the mission of the Salvation Army.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • This position is required to do light physical work.
    • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
    • The work environment for this position is a residential environment with a low to moderate noise level.
