Harvard University25-Jan-2019Assistant Director, Stewardship and Donor RelationsHarvard Graduate School of Education48099BRDuties & ResponsibilitiesHGSE seeks a motivated, creative and results-oriented self-starter to join its Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) team on our mission of changing the world through education.Reporting to the Executive Director for Development and Alumni Relations, the Assistant Director, Stewardship and Donor Relations conceives and implements HGSE's strategy to steward major donors and report on funds. Working in close collaboration with HGSE senior leadership, major gift officers, and colleagues across the school and University, he/she will propose and implement creative, meaningful, customized and impeccably executed strategies for recognizing donors who make notable gifts to HGSE for purposes such as fellowships, faculty chairs, programs, initiatives, and capital improvements.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:• Researches, writes, and produces compelling stewardship reports and updates for all significant philanthropic commitments and endowed funds at HGSE.• Creates and maintains a comprehensive calendar of stewardship projects and reports, and drives the process of producing these reports in a timely manner, including collecting information from faculty, staff, or other principals as needed.• Implements creative strategies for updating and stewarding donors, such as student selfie videos, program newsletters, donor gifts, or recognition walls. Serves as primary liaison with students and alumni for stewardship purposes.• Drafts professional, meaningful, and customized acknowledgment letters for the Dean and the Senior Associate Dean for all major gifts made to HGSE.• Works in close collaboration with HGSE and DAR colleagues to initiate, design and execute high-level donor recognition and stewardship events, which may include receptions, small dinners and individual donor/student meetings. As appropriate, drafts event briefings for the dean.• May consult with and support the Annual Fund team in stewarding members of the HGSE giving societies.• Represents HGSE at university-wide meetings related to stewardship and donor relations and is responsible for any projects involving same. Responds to information requests from University Development Office, HGSE faculty, and administration.• Works on special projects as assigned.Basic QualificationsBachelor's degree and minimum 3 years' experience in stewardship, donor relations or communications, ideally within an academic institution. Must be able to work evening and weekend hours as needed.Applicants wishing to be considered must submit a cover letter in addition to their resume. Finalists may be asked to submit a writing sample.Additional QualificationsThe ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative and flexibility and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, idea-driven environment. Must possess excellent writing skills. Must be able to quickly and efficiently integrate and synthesize information, work independently at a high standard, and juggle competing priorities. Proactive team player with a positive, problem-solving attitude and a strong sense of ownership, work ethic, and professionalism. Requires excellent attention to detail, outstanding writing skills, and demonstrated ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Advanced skills in MS Office suite required (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and familiarity with design software (e.g. Adobe InDesign) desired. Ability to learn new software as needed. Experience in an academic or research environment preferred.
